Review of PAK - 100% Human Hair |

| PAK
- 100% Human Hair (Ra Sounds 003) Pak are led by local guitar great and
world traveler Ron Anderson is also in RonRuins and used to run the
Molecules (bay area's best). Pak are Ron and Will Redmond on guitars and
vocals, Jesse Krakow on el. bass & vocal and Race Age (aka Ray Sage)
on drums. This swell studio date was co-produced by Elliott Sharp and
Ron and Elliott sits in on alto sax on one piece. Pak mix Ruins, Magma,
Zappa, Beefheart and other progressive influences into their own unique
and often over-the-top prog/punk blend. Extremely tight, intricate and
constantly shifting through a myriad of ridiculous changes, these guys
are just too much. Often, one guitar will play the difficult parts with
the rhythm team while the other guitar will whip short, frenzied solos.
Much of the vocals are also quirky call and response or layered into
tight, twisted harmonies. The hilarious vocals often come from that
Magma/Ruins school of goofy operatic wackiness. An immense amount of
work must have gone into this challenging, crafty and well played
material and hence it is filled with many surprising twists and turns.
The few times I've seen/heard Pak play live, they completely blew me and
the rest of the audience away, so if they come to your town, you had
better check them out or else! PAK no doubt rule!!
