MOTEL
(Ra Sounds)
PAK’s second release
is finally here in all its spastic, blazing glory. Although
this highly technical power- trio, led by Downtown veteran
composer/guitarist Ron Anderson is New York City’s best
kept secret, the situation, no doubt, is soon to change with
the release of “Motel”. Supported by Keith Abrams powerful,
precise drumming and Jesse Krakow’s quick, agile bass playing,
the band executes Anderson’s tightly wound, incredibly
intricate compositions with tremendous vigor. Like Anderson’s
past work with the Molecules back in the late
80’s/early 90’s, PAK explores equally manic sonic terrain,
built on fractured, lightning fast time changes, Anderson’s
wild, twisted yet melodic soloing and chaotic vocal accents.
Although Anderson’s past releases have always exploded with
energy and ideas, “Motel” is the first to fully actualize his
musical vision with its pristine production values and
compositional embellishments. With the addition of guest
musicians adding piano, violin, and horn parts, “Motel” stands
as Anderson and company’s masterwork. Imagine a combination of
Ruins, Magma, Stickmen and The Flying Luttenbachers, and you
will have a solid idea of the Pac aesthetic. Fantastic work
all round!! (www.ronanderson-molecules.com)
